The purpose of accreditation is to insure quality and integrity in continuing education programs for health care practitioners. CHEP, in collaboration with several educational partners, has been accredited by professional health care organizations since the first program in 1990. All accrediting associations espouse the same fundamental goals and implement regulations to insure quality. Essentially, each association assesses whether the organization they accredit meets and maintains a prescribed set of standards, promotes self-assessments and quality improvements, establishes criteria for evaluation of educational programs and activities, and recognizes excellence.
The accrediting bodies accomplish their mission through a voluntary self-regulating system and by setting standards for quality assurance. By evaluating and granting accreditation to an organization whose education program complies with the stated criteria, the associations seek to improve the quality of the learning experience. It is the responsibility of the CHEP to insure compliance with accreditation standards and maintain certification from each association.
